Job description:
The Risk and Safety Specialist will coach and mentor personnel in safety excellence whilst ensuring effective risk management processes are in place for the monitoring and reduction of health and safety risks. You will bring your specialist knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) risk management and compliance combined with well-developed negotiation and interpersonal skills. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees.
Responsibilities:

Actively encourage and support the FQM ethos of Bolder, Smarter, Driven, Together.

Strive for the continuous improvement of our Health and Safety tools, processes and strategies by identifying opportunities and assisting line management in implementation.

Assist supervisors and superintendents with InControl event management.
-
Participate in pre-start and toolbox meetings.
-
Collect, analyze and present KPIs, data and statistics for both safe work and safety events to inform a targeted approach to safety improvements.
-
Participate in safety document reviews to ensure documents are compliant and effective.
-
Manage key project initiatives as directed by the Health and Safety Superintendent.

Provide safety leadership, advice, and support to all levels at RNO to ensure that they understand and manage their health and safety risks and responsibilities.

Conduct daily audits on high-risk activities being undertaken.

Assist in reporting, investigating and implementing corrective and/or preventive actions resulting from incident investigations or identification of hazards.

Work to achieve the H&S targets and building a strong H&S culture.

Identify areas for improvement, review and ensure compliance to Health and Safety Management procedures.

Participate in/facilitate risk assessments and preparation of risk control documents.
-
Carry out regular site safety inspections and/or audits.
-
Continuously review on-site work practices/processes, materials conditions, plant and equipment to identify and rectify H&S hazards.

Champion awareness of the RNO Health and Safety approach including critical risks and advocacy of adoption of best practice controls; and

Assist with incident investigations.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
-
Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety (minimum Diploma);
-
Minimum of 5 years operational experience in the application of H&S management principles within a processing plant environment.
-
Demonstrated experience in the practical application of WHS legislation, codes of practice and Australian/industry standards.
-
A track record of leading or influencing H&S performance improvements through the development and implementation of H&S strategies and programs.
-
Experience and knowledge of root cause analysis and reporting techniques.
-
A confident facilitator of collaborative based risk, incident and capability building workshops.

Strong communication skills (written and spoken)
Preferable:

Experience with INX InControl.

Ability to positively influence people.

Exceptional attention to detail;

Advanced computer skills;
-
Proven track record in running effective Safety operations.

Driven and motivated with demonstrated efforts at self-development.

Strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm and autonomy, and the ability to excel in a flexible, fast paced environment.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships internally as well as externally; and

Excellent skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning, communication and organising along with the ability to positively influence improved Health and Safety outcomes.
