This organisation, part of a larger privately owned group, is a dynamic supply chain solutions provider with a focus on providing exceptional service to customers nationally with cutting edge technology and a highly capable team.
This is a business critical, reporting to the Group CEO, and part of leadership group in the organisation, responsible for Operations and Inventory across Australia with national coverage, finance and business development/accounts. This person will develop and lead a strategy to grow specifically focused on leadership and development of personnel, service delivery which includes managing all operations including the contractor fleet, customer service levels, safety and technology.
Specific requirements:
  • With P&L responsibility you will oversee the people, sales, contractor fleet, service, to achieve growth and customer experience requirements.
  • Work close with the General Manager to maintain high levels of safety throughout the operation.
  • Lead Operations and Distribution across multiple sites in Australia to meet key metrics in the operations including service levels, cost, safety, contract management and continuous improvement.
  • Review and implement a structure to enable the operations and customer service strategy.
  • Ensure the contractor relationship is focus on standard policies and procedure, service levels, safety with a positive commercial outcome.
  • Review and implement an efficient operations strategy which will include technology, optimising sites, assessing operations performance, reviewing 3rd party agreements to ensure efficiencies are met and the opportunity to grown revenue and profit is in place.
  • Develop and maintain productive, customer-oriented relationships with internal stakeholders across the broader business (including business development, finance, HR, IT, suppliers, etc).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers to reduce cost and deliver maximum value.
  • Implementation of current and future key strategic projects relating to operations, including reviewing structure, capability, utilising resources and setting clear objectives.
  • Build and develop a strategic plan (2-3 years) based on people and process capability, customers, technology, continuous improvement and engagement, that will deliver significant growth opportunities and efficiencies across the business.
  • Lead the engagement and development of team members within the organisation and function.
  • Drive a culture of performance and accountability through behaviours/values.
  • Manage the cost centres for the business.
  • Develop business case for investment including clear understanding of financial impacts and ROI.
  • Drive a program of continuous cost reduction driven by financial management systems and a continuous pipeline of improvement projects (all levels).
  • Report performance on a regular basis.
  • Effective use of Project Management disciplines and tools when delivering transformation and change.
Background required:
  • Ideally tertiary qualified with a senior leadership background, able to think strategically and deliver through people and process.
  • Need to have extensive experience in operations and distribution, with a major focus on freight and logistics.
  • Must be able to manage a large and multi-site team to ensure a standardised approach with a focus on quality, safety and service.
  • Commercially astute, they must be able to understand financial reports, manage a budget and make commercial decisions.
  • Open to industry background but must come from a customer centric environment such as the logistics industry (3PL/4PL).
  • Collaborative in their style, inclusive in making decisions.
  • Strong communication, coaching, consultation and negotiation skills with an ability to engage and influence internal stakeholders including senior executive level employees as well as line management and sub-contractors.
  • Strong cross functional experience must have a good understanding and have worked with business development, HR, finance, IT and administration.
