About your opportunity:
The Public Health Nurse (Contact Tracing Support Officer) is a Registered Nurse who is accountable at an advanced practice level to promote, encourage, educate, and support clinicians and other health professionals to conduct contact tracing for persons diagnosed with sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and HIV if required, across two Hospital and Health Services (HHS) - Torres and Cape HHS and Cairns and Hinterland Hospital Health Service.
About your role:
Provide expert advice and support to clinicians regarding contact tracing and partner notification, management and ongoing care and management of people who place others at risk of HIV.
Support General Practitioners and Practice Nurses and other clinicians including, sexual health medical and nursing staff, Indigenous Health Workers and other health professionals across HHSs to conduct contact tracing for patients diagnosed with STIs (Syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and HIV as required).
Monitor STI epidemiological data to plan, develop, implement, evaluate strategies and programs designed to improve the level and effectiveness of contact tracing and put systems in place for rapid responses to notifications.
Work in close collaboration with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, Queensland Syphilis Surveillance Service, other Contact Tracing Support Officers, Public Health Teams, Communicable Diseases Branch and sexual health and HIV service providers to address public health and epidemiology issues.
