In this role, you'll:
The Future Mobility Testing and Research Centre in Cudal was established to conduct testing and evaluation on emerging technology of Safety Assist features in cars such as autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane keep assist functions in accordance with international and national protocols.
Utilising robots capable of driving cars, articulated pedestrian targets and pilotable self-propelled car target (aka. GST – Guided Soft Target, or GVT – Global Vehicle Target), the Cudal test facility is the only one of its kind in Australia and is at the forefront of autonomous testing in Australia.
Right now, we have opportunity for a Test Engineer (Equipment) – Future Mobility Testing to support the delivery of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing, research and development of future mobility technologies, vehicle safety innovation and technology development and TfNSW Road Safety research programs.
The dedicated and experienced Testing Engineer (Equipment) – will help to ensure the seamless operation and management of our FMRTC testing equipment. You'll play a critical role in supporting daily test activities, troubleshooting on-track issues, managing inventory, and maintaining high standards of equipment quality and compliance.
What you will be involved in
Maintain all FMRTC equipment in working order to support the delivery of daily test activities Trouble shooting and issue resolution during testing, include on track support Planning, management and ordering of spares, consumables and parts to support planned test schedule. Stocktake and inventory management Responsible for the upkeep and management of workshops and stores rooms Conduct planned maintenance and repairs and upgrades on all equipment Communicate and work with Technical Manager on equipment issues, including aligning maintenance and calibration requirements affecting test schedules Clear and effective documentation and reporting on all equipment related issues and activities Develop and maintain systems for inventory, maintenance and calibration requirements Test target maintenance – Visual checks and radar scans of soft targets to ensure they meet required RADAR specifications Keep up to date with equipment developments and technologies Provide input and improvements to test methods through new equipment and technologies. Build and maintain relationships with equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
Example of work with the Quality Management Systems:
Work closely with the Quality and Business Systems Manager and Technical Manager in the planning of equipment maintenance, software/firmware upgrades and calibrations in line with the Test schedule Physically perform periodic internal equipment calibrations Organise and manage periodic external equipment calibrations “Acceptance” of new equipment – including testing and validating equipment functions as intended and meets test requirements. Ensure equipment meet QMS requirements Work with internal parties to create work flows and training documents for existing and new equipment Ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented and recorded.

About You
We’re flexible on your background. Ideally, you have tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical, Aviation, Mechanical or related), with a genuine passion for robotics and automation. You will also have knowledge and experience with communication systems (GPS, network, and radio), Digital connectivity, Connected and Autonomous technologies
You are curious. You have a demonstrated ability and desire to problem solve, investigate, seek solutions and think laterally when approaching new and unfamiliar technology. This is essential, as you will be required to ensure equipment remains operational during test programs. Any experience in future mobility technologies, sensors or robotics would be highly regarded.
Importantly, you need to be able to work in a team environment who is willing to learn and has an ability to think outside the box.
Essential Requirements
Bachelor degree in an Engineering discipline (Mechatronics/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical or Automation) from an Australian tertiary institution or equivalent overseas qualifications” Possess a current and valid Australian motor vehicle driver license Willingness to work outside regular working hours and travel on occasion
Desired requirements
Must have experience in mechanical hardware and equipment maintenace and calibrations Must have experience in electrical and software/firmware aspects of maintenance and upgrades.
Additional information
This role requires testing beyond normal working hours, for example testing in night-time conditions. So, willingness to work outside regular working hours and travel on occasion Work is at times physical, and requires working extended periods outdoors in the elements. Candidates may need to undertake background checks, criminal record checks, and a medical /fitness assessment.
