Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Healing Spirits Coordinator . This position will be well suited to someone who has a recognised health related qualification - e.g.) Aboriginal Health Practitioner, nursing,social work, psychology with no restrictions on practice, or demonstrated experiencein a similar role. With an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.
Established 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

About the Opportunity
Join Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) as the Healing Spirit Coordinator (HSC) This is a proactive new program supporting Suicide Prevention. The Healing Spirits Coordinator (HSC) will engage with community members to co-design the approach, implementation and delivery, as well as evaluate the program. You would do this alongside a project officer dedicated to the program and have the support of other Katherine West team members where necessary. The role aims to support suicide prevention interventions, increase mental health awareness, improve community engagement, and enhance the development and availability of culturally appropriate suicide prevention resources.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Conduct needs assessments, including literature reviews and community consultations, to document current programs and resources.
- Develop a culturally appropriate, evidence-based suicide prevention intervention plan in collaboration with community members and key stakeholders.
- Provide therapeutic support and referral where appropriate.
- Develop and distribute a co-designed suicide prevention toolkit.
- Assist with the development and implementation of social marketing strategies, health promotion resources and health education materials.
- Work Collaboratively with other programs such as Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Alcohol and Other Drugs and the Health Promotion team.
