Description:

  • Global leader in evidence-based mental health training and education
  • Shape the next exciting phase of the organisation’s impact journey
  • Two voluntary director positions on a high performing skills-based board

About the organisation

Mental Health First Aid International (MHFAI) is an innovative Australian charity that is growing a global movement dedicated to providing evidence-based mental health education for everyone. Its vision is a world where we all have the skills and confidence to support people experiencing mental health problems, and its work focuses on research, knowledge sharing, and capability building. In 2025, MHFAI is celebrating 25 years of Mental Health First Aid. Since then, over 8 million people have completed its courses in Australia and across 31 countries.

About the roles

The MHFAI Board provides strategic leadership, governance and stewardship of the organisation as it works to achieve the objectives in its 2024-2030 Strategic Plan. The Board oversees financial sustainability, risk management, and advocacy efforts while supporting the executive team to advance MHFAI’s purpose and grow its impact globally.

MHFAI is seeking to appoint two new non-executive directors to complement its skills-based board, with the following backgrounds:

  • One director with extensive mental health research expertise and experience
  • One director with executive level technology and digital experience

About you

A distinguished and highly regarded professional, you are either a PhD-qualified mental health expert with a strong record of peer-reviewed research or a highly experienced technology executive with hands-on expertise in areas such as cybersecurity, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. The Board is seeking collaborative team players who want to make a difference by contributing to the effective governance of MHFAI. Prior board/governance experience or AICD qualifications would be well regarded, but not mandatory.
