About Early Childhood Regulatory Authority:

The Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority is responsible for regulating the early childhood education and care sector. The Regulatory Response team plays an important role within the Regulatory Authority to ensure the safeguarding of children against sexual abuse and misconduct in education and care services across Queensland.

Your Role:

The unique opportunity currently exists for a Principal Regulatory Officer to contribute to the team's targeted response work, including:

  • Queensland's contribution to the national response to the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority's Child Safety Review.
  • Queensland's continuing response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

This work involves working with leading academic experts in protective behaviours and situational and contextual crime prevention measures.

Principal Regulatory Officers also contribute to the team's work on a day-to-day basis by:

  • Assessing notifications, complaints, and intelligence to the Regulatory Authority about matters involving allegations of sexual misconduct.
  • Working with external authorities and sector stakeholders to identify risks of harm to children and to develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct and suspected non-compliance with legislation administered by the Regulatory Authority, and taking proportionate enforcement action.
  • Producing high-level documentation including briefs of evidence, correspondence and investigation reports.
  • Providing advice and support to other regulatory staff both within the Regulatory Response team and more broadly across the Regulatory Authority's regional offices.
  • Conducting internal administrative and statutory reviews of investigations and enforcement actions.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of regulatory policy and practice.

The role is based in Brisbane city and reports to the Manager, Regulatory Response. There will be opportunity to work flexibly, depending on operational requirements.

About You:

While experience in a regulatory role would be advantageous, more important will be your:

  • Experience and qualifications as an investigator.
  • Experience assessing and addressing risk.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of administrative law principles and ability to work with complex legislation.
  • Commitment to being a leader in an emerging and innovative team.
