The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking x2 Senior Assistant Manager to provide a critical role within the Major Offenders unit.
About the Business Unit
The Sentence Management Division is responsible for identifying the needs of people in custody and matching them to correctional resources with the objective of placing and managing these individuals appropriately. It is a process of balancing security, management and needs of the person, the community need for protection and efficient and effective operation of the correctional system. The Sentence Management Division is responsible for guiding the journey of those individuals across the period of their sentence.
The Major Offenders Unit is part of the Sentence Management Division and is a component of Corrections Victoria's proactive approach to managing risk and responsiveness. The Unit monitors individuals identified as high profile, high risk or complex and is responsible for monitoring the progress of people across both prisons and community correctional services. The complex classification cohort includes those identified as posing a risk of violent extremism.
About the Role
The Senior Assistant Manager is responsible for the assessment, classification, sentence planning and sentence management of people identified with complex classification, with a focus on those accommodated in restricted custodial environments, and mainstream/protection environments as required.
The position is based in Ravenhall and may require travel to a variety of Corrections Victoria facilities across the state. This role offers flexible work arrangements with work from home days available.
As a Senior Assistant Manager, some of your duties will include:
- Leading staff in the assessment of people in custody and the development of sentence plans.
- Conducting risk assessments of people in custody to determine appropriate placement.
- Conducting placement reviews of people accommodated in Management Units and high profile units and contribute to decisions relating to the placement and management of people in custody.

- Knowledge of Corrections Victoria policies, organisation, procedures and relevant legislation and regulations.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification or experience would be highly regarded.
