Key responsibilities will include :

  • Manage the acceptance, establishment, and administration of research grants, ensuring timely execution of agreements and compliance with UQ and funding provider requirements.

  • Provide expert advice and high-level support to researchers and professional staff across the University on post-award processes, funding rules, reporting obligations, and project variations.

  • Negotiate, review, and coordinate the execution of complex grant contracts and agreements, balancing partner requirements with UQ’s policies and risk appetite.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, mentor less experienced team members, and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery.

About You
  • A relevant degree and/or significant experience in research administration, ideally within the higher education sector.

  • Detailed knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, higher education policies and procedures in relation to research administration with demonstrated skills in interpreting and commenting on research policy, rules and regulations.

  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships, negotiate outcomes, and provide high-quality customer service in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring colleagues and contributing to a positive, high-performing team culture.

  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering outcomes that support research excellence.

  • Demonstrated highly developed project management capabilities with evidence of autonomy, high level analytical prioritisation and time management skills.

  • Proven experience in research funding management, as well as managing and resolving complex research funding contractual and compliance issues will be highly regarded but not essential.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
