Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

You will join a dedicated team to support the integration, maintenance and development of the SJGMH quality and risk program. As our Patient Safety and Quality Coordinator, you will provide direction and support to the hospital and it’s caregivers in the areas of clinical risk management, clinical incident reporting, clinical auditing and quality improvement. You will assist with the St John of God Murdoch Hospital accreditation and licensing requirements, and facilitate policy and procedure development, review and evaluation.

The Position

  • Assist in maintaining the electronic incident management system for SJGMH, ensuring measures and outcomes are appropriate.

  • Provides oversight to the clinical audit program at SJGMH, ensuring databases and systems are in place to effectively manage audit data.

  • Provide information to key stakeholders to allow informed decision making on key concerns identified through the electronic incident management system and audit findings.

  • Carry out statistical analysis of data generated by audit and establish an appropriate format to present the data to relevant parties.

  • Participate in Benchmarking Activities and provide assistance in producing actions plans to generate performance improvement.

  • Provide analysis and reporting to Hospital Committees and Doctor Department meetings, as relevant.

  • Participate in relevant committees, working groups and Medical Department meetings, reporting and providing relevant data that provides information for improvement activities and projects.

  • Liaise with the Manager Quality and Risk, assisting with ongoing achievement of the Hospital’s external certification programs, including; National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards (NSQHSS), Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS), Licensing and Regulatory Unit (LARU), Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Medicare, and Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation (DIAS) through Quality in Practice (QIP).

  • Assists with external reporting requirements, including notification to the Patient Safety Surveillance Unit (PSSU) and Licensing and Regulatory Unit (LARU).

  • Provide the DMC with regular feedback on accreditation processes and quality improvement progress via reports and at departmental meetings.

  • Develop and maintain a SJGMH Register of Quality Improvement Activities in accordance with the SJGMH Quality Improvement Framework.

  • Maintain and distribute relevant Legislative Updates and/or Operational Directives, ensuring incorporation into policies and procedures as required.

  • Train and develop safety and quality portfolio holders at department level, to facilitate a continuous performance improvement culture.

  • Liaise with necessary parties, including SJGMH caregivers, in reviewing significant incidents requiring Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and assist in developing and implementing system improvement initiatives.

  • Educate, train and advise caregivers in risk mitigation skills and continuous improvement methodology

  • Assist with the upkeep of the Policies and Procedures database, liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure best practice guidelines are implemented.

You will have demonstrated understanding, knowledge, expertise and achievement of accreditation and private hospital licensing requirements. You will demonstrate conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to analyse information and provide reports relating to findings is essential to the role.

With excellent communication, interpersonal and highly developed organisational skills, you will have the ability to meet agreed targets and timelines.

To succeed you will hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with previous experience in quality improvement and clinical risk management in a healthcare setting. You will have sound computer skills, including the ability to use and maintain databases.
