Centacare services the North Queensland community from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry and Normanton.

Your opportunity:
The BRIDGE program is a secondary family support service aimed at reducing harm or risk of harm to children and young people, prevent crises or problems within families from arising or escalating, and stabilise or maintain family wellbeing. This is achieved by improving the wellbeing and safety of children, young people and their families, building capacity of families to care for and protect their children, and providing links to local support services/ community groups to enable families to access the resources to build their capacity to solve problems and make positive choices and changes.
Joining a values-driven, supportive and inclusive team, you will:
- Build rapport with families while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Support the Family Support Workers and Senior Practitioner to assess family needs through engagement and consultation with the family and information obtained through Family Star, observations and family history.
- Provide practical family support strategies to strengthen parenting capacity and to promote a positive family environment.
- Assist with the facilitation of parenting education groups and workshops.
- Provide culturally appropriate and flexible early intervention family support strategies, techniques, skill development, assistance and information to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) individuals and families, including those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Maintain clients’ files in accordance with program and agency procedures, including upholding all case noting and documentation responsibilities in line with CNQ policy and procedures.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with community, government and non-government services.
- Discuss any safety concerns with line manager or senior practitioner immediately as per policy.
- Participate and contribute to line management meetings, professional development, supervision, team meetings, and staff days as required.
- Commitment to the mission and procedures of Centacare NQ, including organisational goals
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate IV or higher in Community Services (or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to apply feedback in creative and flexible ways to support household and child management in a non-judgmental manner.
- Highly developed communication skills both written and verbal for working with a broad-based network of service providers and culturally diverse clientele.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary society. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people.
- An ability to understand and describe family functioning in a broad range of cultural and social contexts.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in conducting safety and risk assessments with vulnerable families.
- Demonstrated organisational, time management and administration skills.
- Current open driver licence.
- Current, and ability to retain, both a Working with Children Blue Card check and Disability Services Yellow Card.
