The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Officer to provide a critical role within the Major Offenders unit.

About the Business Unit

The Major Offenders Unit is part of the Sentence Management Division and is a component of Corrections Victoria's proactive approach to managing risk and responsiveness. The Unit monitors those individuals identified as high profile, high risk or complex and is responsible for monitoring the progress of people across both prisons and community correctional services.

About the Role

The Project Officer is responsible for contributing to and/or completing complex briefings and reports to support various executive Corrections Victoria staff that have oversight of prisoners and offenders that pose the most significant risk to the Correctional System.

This position is primarily responsible for the coordination, collation and analysis of information relating to long-term management prisoners, those managed by the Major Offenders Unit and people falling within certain cohorts or groups who present a risk to the Correctional System. This includes being accountable for the handling, management and storage of sensitive information.

This position is subject to flexible work arrangements and allows work from home days.

As a Project Officer, some of your duties will include:

  • Contributing to the effective gathering, collating and analysing of complex information relating to long[1]term people in custody and individuals falling within certain cohorts or groups presenting the most significant risk to the Correctional System.
  • Initiating and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and convey information that that is clear, authoritative and sensitive in nature.
  • Providing advice and information and assistance to a wide range of senior managers, stakeholders, external government and service providers on a range of complex issues, focussed predominately on those long-term management prisoners and prisoners falling within certain cohorts or groups considered to pose the greatest risk to the Correctional System.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of the key issues impacting Corrections Victoria, particularly within legislative, social, political and industrial frameworks.
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic, unstructured environment.

Qualifications

  • There are no essential qualifications for this role. However, relevant experience in a related discipline would be highly desirable.
