Description:

The Senior Immediate Action Officer is responsible for assessing urgent complaints that raise a significant issue of public health or safety to provide the basis for urgent short term disciplinary action against a registered health practitioner, or to issue an urgent prohibition order against an unregistered health practitioner.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Analyse information, assess the risk, and provide advice on how to proceed in relation to urgent complaints that raise a significant issue of public health and safety.
  • Prioritise urgent matters with consideration of the seriousness of the risk, and the necessity to act, whilst managing competing priorities.
  • Gather information, and where appropriate issue notices pursuant to the Health Ombudsman Act 2013 to require information, for investigation of potential immediate actions.
  • Provide efficient and effective delivery of high-quality assessment and investigation of complaints and notifications requiring potential immediate actions and where required, interview witnesses, prepare witness statements and attend search warrants.
  • Provide high quality analysis of potential immediate action matters and of submissions received from health care providers, in line with organisation policies and procedures.
  • Draft high-quality decision and reason documents (which includes reasons for decisions, memorandum, briefing notes, schedules of conditions and restrictions and general correspondence) in relation to decisions to take immediate actions or another relevant action under the Health Ombudsman Act 2013.
  • Liaise with the investigations division when investigating an immediate action matter or potential immediate action matter, and form and maintain key networks with legal officers in those matters which are subsequently reviewed by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
