About the Opportunity
The primary purpose of the Senior Legal Officer is to lead complex and sensitive investigations under the Ombudsman Act 1972 (including those arising from child protection related complaints), and the Return to Work Act 2014 . The Senior Legal Officer also provides high quality legal advice to the Ombudsman and provides leadership and supervision to junior legal officers. The Senior Legal Officer may be required to perform duties relating to the Ombudsman’s functions under the Freedom of Information Act 1991 .

Ombudsman SA is an independent body that investigates complaints regarding South Australian government and local government agencies, conducts audits of these agencies, reviews freedom of information determinations of these agencies, supports the implementation of the Information Sharing Guidelines across government, and receives information about state and local government activities confidentially from whistleblowers.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
Some out of hours work may be required.
Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in a law or related discipline.
