Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Intake and Assessment Officer. This position will be well suited to someone who has an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.


Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

About the Opportunity


Katherine West Health Board is looking for a dedicated Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Intake and Assessment Officer. The position will be the critical first point of contact for individuals and families referred to the Big Rivers Supporting Recovery from FDSV Program, and will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, counsellors, mental health nurses and social care and engagement officers. The role involves working within established referral pathways and intake systems in coordination with partner organisations.


Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):



  • Conduct culturally secure and trauma-informed intake, screening, and risk assessments by phone or face to face with individuals and families impacted by FDSV.
  • Manage the intake phone, email inbox and internal referral pathways to ensure all client referrals are actioned, addressed and documented within five (5) working days.
  • Determine program eligibility and guide individuals through the next steps in their support journey, including applying a “no wrong door” approach to engagement and support for qualified referrals to more appropriate services as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including intake documentation, consent forms, assessment outcomes, and referrals.
  • Participate in case conferencing discussions with the broader multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care.
