Work Experience with Energy Queensland (including Ergon Energy Network and Energex)

Energy Queensland (including Ergon Network and Energex) offers work experience placements for high school students currently in Years 10, 11 or 12, or students completing a relevant course through TAFE.

Work experience is a great way to gain insight into our everyday work and to find out about the various tradesperson jobs that exist within our organisation.

If you are interested in the Electricity Supply Industry, your energy can land you a work experience placement with us. We are regularly looking for keen candidates to nurture as we lead the future of energy supply in Queensland.

IMPORTANT: This expression of interest is for work experience placements between Monday 4 August and Friday 31 October 2025 only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are all depots available for work experience placements?
A. Depot availability will vary depending on supervisor availability; this may change throughout the year.

Q. Will I have to compete for a place in the work experience program?
A. In some cases, YES, depending on the number of applications we receive.

Q. I am not in Year 10, 11 or 12 at High School, and am not currently studying at TAFE. Can I still apply?
A. Unfortunately, NO. Our work experience program is only open to students that meet this criteria.

Q. How long are the work experience placements?
A. Trade based placements will last for five (5) days, starting on a Monday and finishing on a Friday. Where a public holiday falls during that period, the placement may be shorter in duration.

Q. When do placements occur?
A. They will vary throughout the year and are subject to availability at the depot/office you have chosen.

Requirements

  • For trade based placements, you must obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO); unit of competency = CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • If accepted for a work experience placement, you must turn up for work at specific times and comply with instructions from your Workgroup Leader and/or supervisor. Travel to and from the worksite is your responsibility.
  • Your placement can end at any time due to misbehaviour, poor attendance, not following instructions, risk to staff, or if resources to manage the placement become unavailable.

Once submitted, a member of our Early Careers team will assess your application and, if successful, we will provide you with a Work Experience Agreement Form to be signed by yourself, your school/TAFE, and your parent/guardian (if you are under 18 at the time of the placement).
