About the Role:

This position involves teaching in the Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production, specifically a second-year subject called DIY Music Release. It focuses on delivering engaging, industry-relevant instruction centered on local contemporary music industry practices, self-releasing music, and DIY release strategies.

This casual teaching position, supports student learning and development through innovative curriculum design and delivery, assessment, and other teaching-related duties, contributing to a high-quality learning experience for both domestic and international students.

The position contributes to the ongoing refinement of the course and helps maintain strong industry connections that enhance student successes and graduate outcomes.

Duties:

  • Deliver curriculum effectively using a range of learning strategies and platforms—including online, practical, theoretical, and industry-focused approaches—tailored to session length, learning outcomes, and student needs.
  • Prepare and update learning and teaching materials such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and practical classes.
  • Promote inclusive teaching practices and ensure learning content reflects diverse perspectives and positive representations of minority groups.
  • Communicate effectively with students, encouraging participation and responding to individual learning needs.
  • Support program induction and quality assurance processes, and contribute to ongoing curriculum development to reflect industry trends.
  • Develop and maintain the Learning Management System (Moodle), as directed by the Head of Program or Subject Coordinator.
  • Design and implement fair, valid, and consistent assessments, including clear marking frameworks aligned with curriculum content and learning outcomes.
  • Provide timely feedback and ensure assessment processes align with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Promote and support students in understanding codes of conduct, respectful behaviors, and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
  • Contribute to promoting the welfare of students and inform them of health and safety requirements.
  • Raise student awareness of counseling and guidance services, referring students to these services as appropriate.
  • Liaise with student support services as needed to support positive learning outcomes.
  • Provide tutorial support and advice to students in accordance with program requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the specialist subject/discipline area.
  • Keep records in accordance with department requirements, including monitoring and recording class attendance via Markbook.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the institute’s quality policies.
  • Fully participate in quality inspections and visits from internal and external professional bodies, awarding bodies, and regulators (e.g., TEQSA), providing information as required in the appropriate format and within the set time scale.
  • Implement institute quality procedures as required.
  • Actively engage in and fully participate in student and program evaluations as required.
  • Work as an effective team member within the program, department, and directorate, respecting the rights and interests of others.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Applicants must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree (or approved equivalent experience) in a field relevant to the discipline they are teaching.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence, with prior experience teaching at the tertiary level within the relevant discipline considered favourably.
  • Experience in designing and delivering course materials, particularly for online, flexible, and blended learning environments.
  • Strong capability in developing subject content, curriculum, and assessment for higher education programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of specialised subject areas relevant to the degree program.
  • An emerging track record of research and scholarly outputs, including research monographs, edited volumes, peer-reviewed articles, research reports, or equivalent project-based work.
  • Substantial professional and industry experience directly related to the degree area.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with academic staff and senior leadership, and represent the department on internal and external committees.
  • Excellent written communication and literacy skills.
  • A formal teaching qualification, or active progress toward one, is highly desirable.
  • Successful applicant must be able to attain a Working with Children Check (Employee) and a new National Police Check.
