About the role:

The position supports a small team of officers focusing on compliance and investigations related to the un-lawful possession, storage, record keeping, labelling, use, prescribing and supply of scheduled medicines.

In carrying out its functions, the team prioritises the investigation and disruption of conduct which poses a serious risk of harm to the health or safety of the public. Where able, it undertakes other activities designed to improve compliance standards generally including the delivery of education, publishing documents that provide advice, responding to enquiries, collaborating with other jurisdictions and executing targeted compliance operations focussing on emerging areas of concern

The role may include periods of out-of- business hours work (weeknights and weekends) and travel to regional and remote areas.

About you:

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Conduct desktop and onsite assessments of regulated entities, preparing reports, advice, and correspondence as required and assisting in taking essential regulatory action when non-compliance is identified.
  • Provide input into compliance review frameworks, development of annual plans and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to identify and address areas of noncompliance.
  • Assist in the development of a risk based regulatory approach to legislation the Branch is responsible for.
  • Provide input into development of responses to address emerging issues and areas of risk for government, department and the community.

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise

  • Current Victorian driver's licence.
  • A Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or similar qualification is highly desirable.
  • Additional tertiary qualification in a relevant field (regulation, law, or Ahpra registered health professional - nurse/paramedic/pharmacy/allied health) would be highly regarded.
  • An understanding of health practitioners and their use of scheduled substances and associated risks (with particular emphasis on Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 substances).
  • An understanding of the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981, its Regulations or, alternatively, similar legislation and ability to quickly obtain a relevant understanding.
  • Experience in regulatory and public policy work as well as knowledge of relevant government legislation.
