- Salary: $97,955 - $111,142 (Plus Superannuation)

The Role
The Policy Officer will lead and contribute to economic policy research and analysis to inform government policy for regional Victoria. Reporting to the Manager, Regional Economic Policy, the successful applicant will provide evidence-based advice to senior executives and Ministers on a diverse range of regional economic policy issues. This is an important role in a team that is central to driving regional policy coordination in the Victorian Government.
Key accountabilities include:
- Conduct thorough research and analysis on complex regional economic policy issues to provide evidence-based advice to executives and Ministers.
- Develop high-quality cabinet submissions, budget bids, policy papers, and briefings on regional economic development in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Advise departmental executives on RDV positions regarding Cabinet and Committee submissions and related policy work.
The Team
The position of Policy Officer forms a part of the Place based, Strategy, Insights and Coordination branch within the Regional Development Victoria group.
The group collaborates with businesses, communities, and government to drive economic growth, create jobs, enhance resilience, and support regional recovery. It strengthens networks, builds partnerships, delivers impactful outcomes, and ensures community perspectives shape government decisions.
The branch provides evidence-based policy to influence regional economic outcomes and support high-quality program delivery with RDV and other departments. It plays a key role in coordinating policy advice across RDV activities, ensuring place-based perspectives guide RDV and DJSIR strategies.
About You
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Economic policy development: Awareness of regional Victoria's challenges and opportunities, understanding of policy processes within the Victorian Government, and ability to convey economic impacts and contribute to policy decisions.
- Conceptual and analytical ability: Comfort with complexity, strong reasoning skills, and a research-driven approach to regional economic development.
- Written and verbal communication: Ability to craft clear, concise, audience-tailored documents and confidently convey ideas, refining communication based on feedback.
