About the Role
As the National Automation Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the performance, consistency, and optimisation of automation systems across a multi-site DC network. Collaborating with automation suppliers and site teams, you’ll monitor material flow, support testing and implementation activities, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. This role is hands-on and strategic, focusing on translating business needs into smarter automation outcomes that drive efficiency, reduce cost, and improve warehouse performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and develop strong relationships with automation vendors, acting as the main point of contact for improvement projects and initiatives;
- Support business planning, automation strategy, budgeting, and commercial decisions to ensure continuous improvements;
- Lead the development and implementation of standardised and aligned maintenance KPIs, leveraging best practices to improve S&M safety, costs, and performance;
- Manage allocated automation projects from implementation to completion;
- Collaborate with Site and Automation Managers to ensure effective asset management, maintenance, and capital plans for all automation installations throughout the asset’s life; and
- Take a proactive role in understanding the root causes of downtime and designing and implementing engineering solutions to eliminate those causes
- Support the evaluation and deployment of new automation systems, including requirements gathering, business case development, vendor evaluation, design, and commissioning.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Logistics or Business (preferred);
- 3+ years of experience in logistics management or coordinating automation systems;
- Experience running and supporting automation systems in distribution centres;
- Previous experience in fast-paced warehousing and logistics environments;
- Familiarity with automation management software;
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; and
- This position requires a blend of technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to drive measurable improvements across multiple sites on a national scale.
