The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Services team. Based in either Melbourne or Brisbane , you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our data infrastructure.
This role involves maintaining and improving existing data pipelines , delivering ad-hoc reports (via Power BI and SQL ), and supporting project-based work such as the integration of new data sources. A major focus of the role will also be ensuring data quality , reliability, and consistency across all systems and outputs.
You’ll work with tools such as Microsoft Fabric , Azure Data Factory (ADF) , Notebooks , and Power BI , including managing semantic models and using DevOps pipelines for version control and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot data pipelines to ensure consistent and timely data flow.
- Develop and support ad-hoc reports using Power BI and SQL .
- Ensure data quality by implementing validation rules, profiling data sources, and proactively identifying inconsistencies or issues.
- Implement monitoring and alerting mechanisms to promptly notify business stakeholders in the event of job failures, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to downstream processes
- Design and implement data models and transformations using Microsoft Fabric and Notebooks .
- Orchestrate data workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF) .
- Build and maintain semantic models in Power BI , including integration with DevOps pipelines .
- Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for Power BI, Notebooks, and other data assets.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable, accurate data solutions.
- Support the GM, Data Services in strategic initiatives, process improvements, and new data projects.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft Fabric
- Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- Notebooks (e.g., Synapse or Fabric)
- Power BI including semantic model development
- SQL for querying and data transformation
- Python for data engineering workflows
- Rest API
- Direct database/ data lake/ cloud storage and/or
- Logic Apps or Azure Functions
