About the role:
The Senior Work Health and Safety (WHS) Project and Policy Officer is responsible for managing strategic projects relating to WHS through the coordination and effective engagement of internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of providing evidence-based, relevant and communicated policies and procedures.
The Officer provides expert WHS advice in relation to the development, implementation, and review of the department’s WHS management system. Working independently and as part of a team to provide expertise and knowledge regarding complex WHS system and policy matters to ensure continuous improvement strategies are implemented.
The Senior WHS Project and Policy Officer reviews relevant legislation, standards and whole of government requirements and prepares strategic briefs, policy papers and submissions. The Officer coordinates and manages key strategic projects and contributes to the business unit’s and department’s objectives. Improving and maintaining efficient and compliant WHS work practices across the Department.
The Officer provides high quality strategic, expert advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders based on significant knowledge of legislation, relevant government and organisational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Essential: Nil.
Desirable: An appropriate tertiary qualification in: Occupational Health and Safety Management, Risk Management or other related discipline, or Cert IV in WHS or relevant experience in a similar role in a large and complex environment.
Special conditions:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration:
ASO7 $108,109 - 116,864 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%) and leave loading.
