The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced policy professional to join the Department of Primary Industries and Regions’ Biosecurity Division as a Principal Policy Officer. The position is a key member of a dynamic team focussed on preparing for the implementation of the Biosecurity Act 2025 and the development of its supporting regulations.
The role will manage, plan, develop, implement and evaluate a portfolio of complex policy initiatives and policy reform projects for PIRSA, specifically the implementation of the Biosecurity Act 2025 , and ensure high level policy advice and assistance is provided to the Minister, Chief Executive and Executive Director.
The role initiates, leads and manages industry analysis and intelligence gathering projects, identifies, evaluates and monitors policy implications and emerging issues, provides expert advice and policy development, and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Special Conditions
• Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
• Australian residency or current work permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
• Opportunity up to June 2027.
• Full time, 37.5 hours per week.
Requirements
• Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
• You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations.
• May be required to work from one or more sites in urban Adelaide, including Waite and the Adelaide CBD.
• The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
Qualifications
• Essential: Nil
• Desirable: An appropriate tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent expertise.
Remuneration
ASO8 - $121,107 min - $125,679 max per annum, plus superannuation
