This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Senior Research Assistant (Bioarchaeology) to join an inter-disciplinary project grounded in bioarchaeology led by Dr Justyna Miszkiewicz part of her recently awarded ARC Future Fellowship investigating social and temporal dynamics of bone health.
The successful applicant will provide specialist scientific knowledge and skills in support of high-quality research outcomes at all stages of the project, including data collection and analysis, and dissemination of project results via research publications, conference presentations, and project website. The Senior Research Assistant will join a vibrant group of international researchers in archaeology, anthropology, and bone biology, and have access to world class microscopy laboratory facilities and industry networking opportunities.
Key responsibilities will include:

Coordinate data collection and analysis, preparation of graphs, figures, and manuscripts for conference presentations and assist in the design of research publications/ studies.

Assists with drafting research documentation, including ethics and funding applications, and provide administrative support to the team.

Assist with literature searches, reviews, and preparation of reports, figures, and presentations on research outcomes.

Troubleshoot issues with data storage, maintenance systems, and research equipment, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols

Contribute to the upkeep of the project website and ensure safe handling and disposal of research materials.

Completion, or near completion, of a degree level qualification in (biological) archaeology or (biological) anthropology; or completion of a Diploma with relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

Excellent practical research skills and experience in relevant research methodology or techniques including foundational knowledge of bioarchaeology and bioarchaeological methods and a basic understanding of human bone histology, particularly microscopic structures and how they relate to bone growth.

Experience of working in a research environment.

Technical capabilities in data storage, maintenance, and analysis using established data analysis software.

Ability to work independently on routine procedures.

Knowledge of histomorphometric and histomorphological techniques is desirable.

Experience using image analysis software, such as FIJI/ImageJ is desirable.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and others as required.
