We are seeking a dynamic, optimistic, and collaborative professional with strong project management expertise to support the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Campus Culture and Leadership). In this role, the Senior Executive Officer will work in close partnership with the PVC (CCL), contributing to the successful delivery of key initiatives across the portfolio.
The PVC (CCL) is a newly established role at UQ, held by Professor Heather Zwicker, who also serves as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This position encompasses three primary areas of responsibility: stewardship of UQ’s cultural assets; fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and globally connected campus culture; and enhancing academic leadership across the university.
Our priorities for 2025 and 2026 centre on strengthening social cohesion, with a major focus on finalising, launching, and implementing a suite of antiracism initiatives. A secondary focus involves coordinating UQ’s creative activities and providing strategic support for UQ Arts. The third priority is advancing leadership development, particularly among academic staff. Underpinning all of these efforts is a commitment to clear, effective communication—both sharing our progress with the wider community, and listening to our internal communities so that we remain responsive to emerging needs across the university.
What you'll be doing:
-
Managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of the PVC (CCL) with a high degree of autonomy.
-
Supporting strategic initiatives focused on equity, diversity, inclusion, and organisational culture.
-
Leading the development and delivery of communication strategies essential to the PVC’s success.
-
Providing executive support and overseeing project planning, tracking, and governance.
-
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
-
Translating complex policy and strategy into clear, actionable plans and well-structured reports.
-
Ensuring confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive and complex matters.
What we’re looking for:
-
Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or equivalent combination of management experience and education/training.
-
A deep understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) principles, and a commitment to embedding them in your work.
-
Experience in higher education or similarly complex institutional environments.
-
Insight into the power of art, culture, or community engagement in fostering social cohesion is highly valued.
-
We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and others whose lived experiences bring meaningful insight into issues of inclusion, exclusion, and leadership in diverse communities.
