What you’ll Do

The Team Manager is primarily responsible for optimising the utilisation of resources, including people, budget, equipment, technology, and time, to deliver superior productivity and service levels. This role entails comprehensive planning, monitoring, and controlling of labour, Health Safety & Environment (HSE), material handling equipment (MHE), and key performance indicators (KPIs). The Team Manager drives continuous performance and quality improvements, leading and developing the operations team to achieve high standards. Additionally, the Team Manager will provide cover to the Dock Manager from time to time.

This position is at our Spearwood site and the roster is Monday to Friday 6.00am to 2.30pm

Essential Functions:

  • Optimise the utilisation of people, money, equipment, technology and time, taking into account upstream plans for future shifts, in order to deliver agreed productivity and service levels against the plan, minimising and controlling costs.
  • Plan, monitor and effectively control all aspects of labour, Health Safety & Environment, MHE and KPI site performance.
  • Monitor and continually improve standards of performance and quality within their control during the shift in order to exceed targets.
  • Motivate and lead the operations team to achieve high standard of performance, coaching and mentoring individuals and identify their development needs.
  • Coordinate and manage all site activities including working with transport sub-contractors, internal functional departments, and stores to maintain high standard delivery to the customer.
  • Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to at all time by all employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Responsible for the performance management, development, career path and team work for direct reports and ensuring this is cascaded throughout all reporting lines.
  • Accountable for a safe site for everyone, everyday by implementing and evaluating safe work practices, improving safety performance and celebrating safety achievements

What Experience and Education You Need

  • Minimum one (1) year of proven operational management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing large teams.
  • Knowledge of distribution operations.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Cross functional leadership with multiple teams.
  • Relevant logistics qualifications or equivalent
  • Experience of effective decision making in a fast-moving business environment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Must be able to work in spaces with 140cm of headroom
  • Must be able to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures varying from 0 degrees Celsius to minus 7 degrees Celsius, as well as outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold and precipitation)
  • Must tolerate heights up to 10 meters. and be able to access elevated products from inside safety cage
  • May stand to rebuild pallets with products. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to 5 hours, over an 8-10-12 hour shift. Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able lift boxes of varying weights from 5 kg up to 25kg. from ground level to 200cm in height and up 30kg to 127cm in height rebuilding pallets without assistance. Must be able to lift and carry product a distance of 6 ft. without mechanical assistance
  • Wear clothing, boots, headgear and gloves that protect against the cold.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards/requirements.
