Project Geologist

Native Mineral Resources (NMR) is a publicly listed minerals company with a portfolio of precious metal and base metal properties in pedigree Australian settings.

NMR has recently acquired the Far Fanning Gold Mine and BlackJack Processing Plant, based in the Charters Towers region of Northern Queensland as part of a new and exciting transformational acquisition. The acquisitions provide extensive exploration, near mine and mine potential, and a clear path to gold production with significant upside through resource growth opportunities. An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Geologist to join our team at the foundational phase of this innovative new project. This role will be based in Charters Towers, North Queensland and reports to the Chief Geologist and Operations Manager.

About the role

The Project Geologist will play a pivotal role in open pit mining and grade control planning across the company’s tenement portfolio at Charters Towers. This position would suit someone with experience in gold open pit mining, with additional knowledge of resource definition and estimation being advantageous.

The Project Geologist will manage the day to day grade control, mining operations and safety of the geology department, while also assisting in exploration, resource definition drilling programs and deputise for the Senior geologist when they are offsite. They will also be expected to work closely with other departments such as mining, metallurgy and plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise grade control models and resource definition drill programs across a variety of tenements.

  • Manage the day to day workings of geologists and field personnel, both contract and permanent.

  • Advise on grade control techniques to ensure cost-effective and safe mining operations.

  • Assist in the preparation of detailed project estimates, schedules, and internal reports.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports & any other statutory reporting requirements

  • Implement safety programs in compliance with statutory requirements.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of junior staff.

  • Collaborate with other departments to address operational challenges proactively.

Key Skills:

NMR are seeking a proactive and results-oriented Project Geologist. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong skill set in mining who are ready to contribute to optimising the mine geology for NMR’s tenements. You will support integrated planning processes for mining operations, ensuring that defined targets are met.

  • Strong proficiency in a geological software package, ideally Micromine.

  • Ability to lead safety initiatives and manage compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on proactive management.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in grade control sampling, Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC), block modelling, advanced grade estimation techniques, and reconciliation.

  • Strong understanding of resource definition, safety protocols, and drilling/exploration methodologies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology.

  • 5-10 years of experience in mining, with a focus on open pit gold operations.

  • Hold QLD Mining Supervisor tickets G1, G8 & G9.

  • Be an Australian citizen or have permanent residents’ status.

  • Hold a current Australian driver’s licence.
