Who we are
The Grant Systems Section (GSS) is responsible for the management and administration of the National Health and Medical Research Council's (NHMRC) grant management platform (Sapphire) and operational reporting environment. Its broader responsibilities include contract and service delivery, project delivery, system support and configuration.
Who we are seeking
NHMRC is seeking an experienced and high performing candidate to fill the role of UX/UI Designer. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing intuitive, responsive and engaging user interfaces, with a focus on user experience. Your expertise in visual design, prototyping, and front-end technologies will play a crucial role in shaping seamless, user-centric experiences.

The location for this role is flexible, it can be in our Canberra or Melbourne offices or any location within Australia.
The key duties of the position include
Job specific duties
As the UX/UI Designer, to support the delivery of NHMRCs refreshed granting platform, Sapphire, you will:
• Create visually appealing, functional, and responsive UI designs.
• Conduct research to understand user behaviour, ensuring intuitive and accessible interfaces.
• Develop prototypes and wireframes to bring design concepts to life.
• Organise and conduct usability testing to refine and enhance user interactions.
• Maintain design consistency across multiple platforms.
• Provide UI design insights and best practices for optimal project implementation.
• Clearly articulate design ideas, guidelines, and best practices to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Core capabilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:
• 5+ years of experience in UI/UX design, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centred design expertise, principles and methodologies.
• Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups using design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar.
• Ability to apply accessibility standards to ensure inclusive, usable designs for diverse audiences.
• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools.
• Excellent understanding of user-centred design and usability principles.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.
