About the Department for Correctional Services
The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. Duties
The Program Officer, Cross Borders Programs will:
- Contribute to a Tri-State and Territory Commonwealth justice initiative to reduce levels of violence and other offending in remote Aboriginal communities in Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia within the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) lands;
- Deliver programs, with local Aboriginal Facilitators, to improve the safety of women and children and to address the criminogenic needs of offenders and assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of these programs;
- Work in partnership with Aboriginal people in remote communities and relevant government and non-government organisations to promote the effectiveness of program delivery and safer communities.
Special Conditions
- Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential with the ability to drive a manual car.
- The position and the Cross Borders Team will be based in Alice Springs.
- The position will require a commitment to work schedules that bear little relationship to traditional office hours in a 5 day/week cycle. Out of hours work, considerable amounts of travelling and regular overnight stays in remote areas in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia will be required.

Desirable: A degree in a relevant Human Services field
Remuneration
ASO5 ($85,790 - $95,413)

This is a temporary vacancy up to 30 June 2027.
The position requires significant travel to regional and remote areas across the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia.
