The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Victorian School Building Authority
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.
The VSBA upgrades and expands existing schools and plans, designs and builds new schools to meet enrolment demand. We also support schools to maintain their buildings and grounds by offering expert advice and coordinating maintenance programs and grants.
With Victoria recently introducing two years of funded kindergarten, the VSBA is also working with the early childhood sector on a massive kindergarten construction program.
About the Division
The Corporate Division provides corporate support to all VSBA teams and fulfills an important assurance and oversight role. They guide VSBA to achieve strategic objectives and ensure decision-making is transparent and accountable. The division also coordinates communication and consultation with local communities about their school building projects. They develop graphic design and video content, manage our social media channels, lead organisational customer service reform, distribute our e-newsletters and organise ministerial and other events for our projects. The Division also leads the organisational customer service reform and uplift program.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Developer - Integration Specialist - will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting integration solutions within VSBA. This role will play a pivotal part in creating and managing APIs, as well as integrating data across various systems, enabling effective reporting and analysis of VSBA data for both internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Developer - Integration Specialist will lead team members on various projects and provide strategic advisory services related to data integration and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and maintain APIs for various applications and services.
* Create and manage SSIS packages for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to understand integration requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
* Monitor and troubleshoot API and SSIS performance issues, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
* Document integration processes, API endpoints, and data flows for future reference.
* Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in API development and data integration.
* Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.

Attributes
Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of APIs (RESTful services, SOAP) and data integration tools. Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle). Familiarity with ETL processes and tools
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyse complex integration issues and develop effective solutions. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve data-related problems.
Attention to Detail: Precision in developing and testing integrations to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Careful documentation of processes and workflows to maintain clarity.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms.
Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. Experience leading or mentoring junior developers.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing business needs. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to evaluate data flows and integration processes. Capability to design data models that enhance reporting and analytics.
Project Management: Experience managing integration projects, including timelines, resources, and stakeholder communication. Familiarity with Agile methodologies can be an asset.
Customer Focus: Understanding the needs of stakeholders to deliver effective integration solutions and ensure user satisfaction. Committed to aligning technical solutions with the organisation's goals and business objectives
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology is mandatory.
* Advanced knowledge and proved experience as an Integration Developer with a focus on APIs development (RESTful services, JSON, XML), SQL Server and SSIS package is mandatory
* Experience with cloud-based integration solutions data modelling, ETL processes, and database design are desirable.
* Knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, or JavaScript is mandatory
