Job Summary

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Manager based at our Sydney (Mascot) or Brisbane (Newstead) office. Reporting to the Finance Director, ANZ and working closely with HR and Operations, this role forms an integral part of our operations spanning a rapidly growing workforce of over 4000 employees within Australia and New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to join a highly professional and progressive company leading a large team that requires a strong leader to optimise payroll efficiencies. We are currently also undergoing an integrated HRIS, Payroll and Rostering System implementation to Dayforce, which will streamline the payroll processes from FY26.

Your activities

Reporting into the Finance Director ANZ, your role will:

  • Successfully lead a large payroll team
  • Lead and execute the management of the payroll function to ensure the team outputs are efficient and compliant (4000+ employees in Australia and NZ)
  • Drive process improvement and change management initiatives
  • Drive and nurture key stakeholder engagement, actively promote business relationships and partnerships by the payroll team with the business streams and other customers and providers
  • Strategic leadership and team management – training, collaboration, coaching and delivery
  • Champion the compliance/corporate governance culture
  • Implement best practice payroll controls, transparency and processes
  • Proactively manage queries and potential issues to ensure minimal escalation of non-compliance/non-payment queries
  • Ensure on-time compliance with all management and statutory reporting obligations

Your profile

We are seeking an experienced payroll manager with a passion for process improvement and change management.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage a large team under strict time frames for a very large fast-moving workforce and connect with senior stakeholders within the organisation and uphold multiple relationships to foster a proactive and successful partnership.

Experience in championing system implementations/upgrades will be looked upon favourably.

  • Extensive payroll management experience (5yrs + in a management function)
  • Experience in running high volume pay runs on a fortnightly basis, full end to end payroll – both shift/contract and salaried employees
  • High level of experience dealing with differing EA’s, contracts, shift patterns and hours
  • High level of knowledge around current payroll legislations AUS/NZ and demonstrated success in preventing or addressing proactively potential compliance issues
  • Strong understanding of systems controls and governance for large scale processing
  • Exceptional demonstrated people leadership experience, ability to inspire and engage a team
  • High level of Payroll reporting ability across all facets of this BU
