Location Profile

Concord School is a F-12 special school for students with additional learning needs. The Watsonia Campus accommodates years Foundation-3 and the Bundoora Campus accommodates years 4-12. Class sizes range from 8-14 students and all activities are scaffolded or extended as required to meet the individuals needs. In addition to classroom teachers and educational support staff, there is a multi-disciplinary team including a school medic, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, behaviour support staff, counsellors, a mental health practioner and student wellbeing coordinators.

VISION
The Allied Health Team work to ensure all students that attend Concord School are supported with communication, literacy, self-regulation and functional independent skills. We believe students have the capacity to leave the school as confident young people with skills to be in the community and be prepared for future employment.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated ability to support students with an intellectual disability and behaviours of concern.
2. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, particularly in the area of allied health support.
4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team across the school.
5. Demonstrated experience and capability to support the implementation of allied health programs to support educational programs in a special education setting.
6. Demonstrated ability to use initiative for problem solving, setting priorities within the caseload and time management.

Role

- Support the Allied Health team to develop, deliver and evaluate Allied Health services for students in the classroom or with another Allied Health professional outside of the classroom.
- Support Allied Health staff to deliver professional development programs for staff in the areas within the scope of practice of Allied Health.
- Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions.
- Provide emotional regulation support to students as required throughout interventions.
- Actively participate in team meetings.
- Assist with toileting and meals to students requiring special care where required.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils in playgrounds, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities and life skills.
- Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment.
- Prepare basic curriculum support resources for the delivery of allied health programs.
- Set up and put away equipment and materials in support of allied health programs.
- Observe students and redirect their attention to the teacher where necessary.
- Provide consultation program ideas and strategies to teachers and education support staff in case management and Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC).
- Maintain appropriate records and provide written and oral reports in line with school policies and procedures.
- Additional duties as required by the Allied Health Team and Principal.
