At Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), we are seeking a passionate Women and Youth Participation Officer to join our dedicated Hume Thrive Hub team.

Location: Broadmeadows

Job Type: Max Term Full-Time working 38 hours per week

Salary: $87886.87-$94565.36 per annum, based on skills and experience plus 11.5% superannuation.

About the role

The Women and Youth Participation Officer role is a place-based role aimed at working with the local community to harness local talents, strengths and opportunities and build capability for women and youth to actively participate in society. The role will support the recruitment and engagement of women and young people, plan and facilitate workshops and activities, provide one on one and group coaching and develop collaborative and sustainable relationships with local community partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote to and recruit women and young people to participate in workshops, activities and 1:1 coaching
  • Plan and facilitate workshops and activities, including producing activity plans, organising guest speakers and feedback and reflection reports
  • Provide one on one and group coaching to workshop participants and/or caseload to improve their capacity, knowledge and confidence to pursue their goals and aspirations; facilitate relevant referrals and develop their networks
  • Utilise and champion an Advantaged Thinking approach to working with participants, the team, community and all other stakeholders
  • Model BSL’s values and adhere to the Code of Conduct in everyday work practices

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Career Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience of working in a collaborative team environment to meet key program deliverables and achieve successful outcomes
    • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and project planning
    • Strong networking skills and experience developing partnerships with other agencies, employers, education providers and community groups to work together on a shared goal
    • Strong interpersonal skills which demonstrate an ability to create positive relationships with a wide range of people, including people with disability, people of refugee and migrant backgrounds, people experiencing disadvantage and young people including early school leavers and involving them in activities and decisions
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills, and an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying a capabilities approach to community engagement and coaching.
    Personal Qualities:
    • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and innovative within a changing environment
    • A commitment to maintaining and supporting child safety, equity, inclusion and cultural safety
    • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood of
      St Laurence.
    Qualifications/other:
    • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, community development, youth work and/or similar fields, or extensive relevant experience.
