Description:
As the Project Officer you will be responsible for reviewing the efficacy of current enforcement processes, benchmarking those processes against other regulators, and identifying optimal practice for enforcement actions within the Harm Prevention and Regulation (HPR) division of the Department of Justice.HPR incorporates the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation and Queensland Worker Screening Services. These branches aim to deliver a fair and safe marketplace for Queensland consumers and businesses, regulate the liquor and gambling industries in a way that minimises harm, monitor people who work with children and young people and manage the application process for workers and volunteers seeking a clearance to delivery disability supports and services in Queensland.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead the project and provide high quality, innovative and practical responses to the priorities identified by the HPR Executive team
- Assess and benchmark current processes including: the decision to initiate significant enforcement action, engaging with counsel, appearances at court, the issuing of media statements and the current HPR review process for relevant matters
- Consider the efficacy of HPR prosecution action, particularly the payment of fines and compensation
- Recommend a best practice approach to enforcement including a risk-based approach to prosecution actions undertaken by HPR
- Implement effective governance controls over the project
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including other state government departments and other levels of government where applicable
- Produce high quality reports and briefing notes as required
- Works independently and follows through on assignments with minimal direction
- Acts when answers to a problem are not readily apparent in ambiguous circumstances
- Communicates effectively to persuade others to accept a specific opinion or action or provide information and instruction
- Establishes and maintains co-operative working relationships with co-workers and stakeholders
