This is a recruitment pool for permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities over the life of the pool.

Position Profile

The SPP Directorate is looking for talented and enthusiastic Project and Policy Officers. The pool may be used to fill roles for the Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit, System Policy, Planning and Risk Unit and Strategic Social Health Policy Program.

Project / Policy Officers within the SPP Directorate lead project development and implementation across a range of health reform, strategic planning and system change projects.

This recruitment process is to establish a pool of suitable candidates for Project and Policy Officer vacancies across SPP over the next 12 months – specifically, driven individuals who are keen to deliver WA health system strategic and reform priorities and support transformational change across the WA health sector. Roles will lead and empower teams and provide advice to the WA health system executive, partners and stakeholders. Current bodies of work include supporting implementation of the Sustainable Health Review and Child Development Services System reform programs, strategic health planning, system-wide risk and programs to support the health needs of at-risk populations – all driving improvements for effective and efficient functioning of the WA health system and ultimately achieving better health outcomes for Western Australians.

Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit (SHISU)

SHISU provides comprehensive, robust and strategic program support that assists the Minister and health reform program stakeholders to implement system-wide change for the benefit of the community.

SHISU supports implementation of the 30 Recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review (SHR) Final Report. The SHR prioritises delivery of patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare and seeks to drive a cultural shift to focus on prevention, equity and care closer to home, supported by a modern healthcare system as well as coordinating the Independent Governance Review (IGR) Program.

SHISU also supports the mobilisation of the Child Development Services System Reform Program, which includes implementation of an ambitious reform agenda representing a significant step forward in ensuring children in WA who have a developmental delay or concern receive timely access to supports and services.

SHISU takes a leading role in planning and supporting implementation of the reform agenda by driving the program governance, reporting, resourcing, assurance and evaluation, and transformational change approaches. SHISU is focused on supporting reform programs centred on embedding foundational priorities; Aboriginal health, improving the health of people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and low socioeconomic status communities, reforms for older people, those with disabilities and children and young people, and improved service delivery in rural and remote communities.

SHISU leads monitoring and coordinating reporting of the delivery of the WA Health Election Commitments to the Minister for Health.

SHISU also supports several partnership initiatives and pilots to deliver health reform priorities, including partnerships with the WA Council of Social Services, the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, and the Women’s Legal Service of Western Australia.

Strategic Social Health Policy Program (SSHP)

The SSHP encompasses programs to drive strategic policy reform through collaboration with partners and robust governance and program management to enable systemwide change for at risk populations including children and young people, and victim survivors of family and domestic violence (FDV).
