About the Organisation

A well-established and growing organisation in the insurance and financial services sector is seeking an experienced risk leader to take on the role of General Manager, Operational Risk. This senior leadership position is critical in driving and embedding a strong risk management culture across the business, ensuring effective risk mitigation and governance within a complex and fast-paced environment.

About the Appointment

As the General Manager, Operational Risk, you will work closely with executive leadership to oversee the organisation’s risk management framework, strengthen the first line of defence, and maintain high standards of compliance and governance. You will play a key role in ensuring operational resilience and fostering a proactive risk culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the organisation’s approach to operational risk, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Establish and maintain a structured risk management framework that supports business objectives and enhances resilience.
  • Provide strategic oversight of risk registers, controls, and key risk indicators, ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed, and mitigated.
  • Develop and implement risk initiatives that uplift capability, awareness, and engagement across the organisation.
  • Oversee business continuity planning, ensuring appropriate safeguards for critical operations and service providers.
  • Monitor and report on risk exposures, incidents, and control effectiveness, providing insights to executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance risk governance and operational safeguards.
  • Foster a strong risk-aware culture by providing leadership, education, and ongoing communication to key teams.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced risk leader with a strong background in financial services and a deep understanding of operational risk frameworks. You will have:

  • 15+ years of experience in insurance or financial services, with at least 5 years in a senior risk leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in developing and implementing operational risk management strategies.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A strategic mindset with a hands-on approach to execution and problem-solving.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, finance, law, or a related field.
