Identified position

Who we are
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. Our land and seascapes are distinctive, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and to some of the oldest living cultures on earth. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is located in the heart of the central Australian desert. The dual World Heritage listed park is managed jointly by Anangu Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. The Visitor & Tourism Services team is a section of the park responsible for the Park Entry Station, Cultural Centre, Media, Education and Interpretation as well as a range of other tourism programs including Commercial Tourism Operator permits and licenses.
The Job
In this role you will provide support to the Senior Media Officer and perform the following duties:

  • Assist with the production and distribution of information for media visiting the park. Assist with the production and post-production of media material such as video, undertake data entry, record management and word processing.
  • Assist with compliance management relating to unapproved image and content that does not meet Media Guidelines.
  • Assist with major event management and VIP visits to the park.
  • Assist with the preparation of applications and schedules for meetings of the Board of Management’s Media Working Group.
  • Support with all tasks relating to media projects, including but not limited to social media and website enhancement.
  • All duties will be performed in accordance with the Park’s Lease Agreement, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and Management Plan. Primary responsibility for the administration and delivery of the park’s permit system for Commercial Image Capture (CIC), and Use including:
    • manage the media inbox and provide a timely response to all enquiries
    • process permit applications, including film and photography applications and report large scale media events to the Senior Media Officer
    • provide on park support for all media crews, including conducting detailed and informative media briefing, supervision of media crews visiting the park to ensure adherence to the media guidelines
    • complete all image assessment in line with Media Guidelines and Anangu direction
    • liaise with Parks Australia Public Affairs and relevant stakeholders on media applications and proposals
    • report on monthly statistics for media events and permits Review and update templates, policies and procedures in relation to the permit system.
  • As an effective member of the team, mentor and support other staff in a cross-cultural environment. Share the Traditional Owner’s vision for the future of the park and encourage, facilitate and participate in the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, the community and public.
Eligibility
  • Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
  • Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
The successful applicant:
  • must hold a current Apply First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain this qualification
  • must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence
  • may be required to perform occasional out-of-hours and weekend work
  • must wear an official uniform supplied by the department, including during field operations (as applicable), in accordance with the department’s uniform policy.
