The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Field and Seeds Officer, Pastures to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide scientifically sound research support to pasture breeding research projects on lucerne and annual pastures. The Pastures field technician will manage technical aspects of the research, including seed preparation, sowing and maintenance of field trials, irrigation scheduling, taking plant measurements (phenotyping), record keeping, and harvesting and cleaning pastures seeds.

The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities including (i) stimulating value growth by growing carbon farming as a viable option for South Australian farmers, and (ii) sustaining the resource (and Gross State Product) by protecting the land from the escalating threat of a constantly changing climate.

The role contributes to delivering these objectives through the development of new pasture cultivars with improved adaptation to a changing climate and fit with emerging farming systems.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
  • A Chemcert certificate is required
  • You will be exposed on a daily to allergens and honeybees.

Remuneration


OPS4 - $76,561 min - $80,256 max per annum, plus superannuation
