The Cape York Leaders Program supports the development of current and future Cape York leaders. We are committed to empowering talented Indigenous leaders by providing them with the necessary leadership skills.
A Cape York Leaders Program Scholarship offers support to assist our talented Indigenous students to access credible academic institutions and graduate with a standard of excellence.
About the Role
Based in Rockhampton, with support extending to students in Yeppoon, the Student Support Officer plays a critical role in guiding and mentoring students throughout their secondary education journey.
You will:
- Provide case management and tailored support to ensure students stay engaged and succeed academically and personally.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, schools, and key stakeholders to foster engagement and well-being.
- Monitor student progress and collaborate with schools to ensure wraparound support.
- Support student retention in the Cape York Leaders Program through consistent mentoring and guidance.
- Assist students in achieving ATAR/QCE scores to access tertiary education or training pathways.
- Plan and coordinate regional term-based student events to enhance participation and development.
- Occasionally attend after-hours activities , including extracurricular events, sports games, and school trips.
- Travel regularly between multiple partner schools to provide on-the-ground support to students.
- Maintain administrative systems and contribute to routine operational tasks as required.
About You
We’re looking for a dedicated and passionate individual with:
- Case Management Experience – Proven ability to provide student-centric support and advocacy.
- Strong Communication Skills – Ability to connect with young Indigenous students and maintain effective working relationships with families, schools, and stakeholders.
- Organisational & Teamwork Skills – Ability to manage multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.
- Cultural Understanding – Awareness of challenges faced by Indigenous youth from remote communities and a commitment to their social, academic, and cultural development.
- Technical Proficiency – Strong oral, written, and computer skills for effective communication and reporting.
- Valid Driver’s License – Willingness to travel across partner schools in Rockhampton and Yeppoon.
- Blue Card & Police Clearance – Required before commencement.
