Description:

The role of the Conference Support Officer is to assist in the preparation for and facilitation of youth justice conferences under the Youth Justice Act (1992) and assist in the monitoring of youth justice conference agreements. As Conference Support Officer, you will specifically:

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Provide support and information to young people, and in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, victims and their respective families to assist them to understand the conference process in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, strategic priorities, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, contemporary best practice and within a restorative justice framework.
• Assist youth justice conference convenors with pre-conference preparation including interviews with conference participants to support the preparation and organisation of youth justice conferences.
• Assist and participate in post conference debriefing, monitoring of youth justice conference agreements and maintaining case records consistent with program requirements.
• Provide advice to youth justice conferencing staff and other stakeholders in relation to cultural issues and factors that are relevant to youth justice conference proceedings and outcomes.
• Assist in facilitating the understanding, support, co-operation and involvement of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the youth justice conferencing program.

Mandatory requirements:

• Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted driver's licence or be prepared to obtain a manual licence if they do not. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-today work.
• This role is designated as Regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card to be linked with the organisation prior to starting. Please refer to the Blue Card Services website (http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/) for further information.
• This is designated as an Indigenous Identified role based on the genuine occupational requirements for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island person, in accordance with section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, and the Recruitment and Selection (Directive 07/23).
