The Role
At the High Frequency Sensing Systems Program Office (HFSSPO), our purpose is to acquire and sustain a world leading High Frequency Radar network in support of Australian's National Defence. To achieve this, we are looking for an experienced Project Manager to head up our Acquisition team on the AIR2025 Ph6 JORN Mid Life Upgrade project. Our Project Manager is accountable to the Director HFSSPO Acquisition Office (HFSSPO AO), and is responsible for the successful delivery of the JORN Mid Life Upgrade in accordance with the budget, schedule and scope requirements.
You will be an integral part of the HFSSPO AO Leadership team, responsible for planning and determining the strategic direction of the unit. You will provide strategic advice to senior management, including other project teams and internal and external stakeholders. You will be accountable for the leadership and management of a multi-disciplined project team. Providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people. You will oversee all aspects of complex project activities, including finance, commercial, technical, risk, schedule, human resources and Industry/Commonwealth stakeholder relationships.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience in complex project management environment (preferably defence related - 5years+)
- Exceptional organisational skills, specifically the ability to oversee projects, prioritise commitments and meet critical deadlines while maintaining quality standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Extensive knowledge in legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policies requirements
- The ability to influence and develop strategies, policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives based on high level decision making and judgement
- Well-developed understanding of contemporary PM methodologies coupled with proven understanding of Earned Value Management, Project Controls, Scheduling and Risk Management
- The ability to develop and mentor team and identify opportunities to increase team capability to ensure continuous improvement.
