Description:

Senior Advisor, Aboriginal Recruitment and Capability Development

  • Salary: $109,730 - $132,764 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Ongoing role, full time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)

ONLY ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLE ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY AS THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT UNDER THE SPECIAL MEASURES PROVISION OF S12(1) OF THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ACT (VIC).

For the purpose of employment in Aboriginal Designated or Aboriginal Prioritised positions within the Victorian public sector, candidates will be asked to provide Confirmation of Aboriginality. This can be confirmed by a Confirmation of Aboriginality form signed by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and affixed with the common seal of that organisation. Recognising that access to formal Confirmation of Aboriginality documents can occasionally be problematic, an alternative process can be discussed.

The Role

As Senior Advisor, Aboriginal Recruitment and Capability Development (ARCD), you will play a vital role in creating culturally safe employment and career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Working within a new, specialised team, you will support the implementation of our Aboriginal Recruitment and Career Development Strategy (ARCDS) and Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework (ACSF). Your role is central to bringing these strategies to life, working alongside the Principal Advisor to create real change across the department.

You will focus on developing and implementing practical initiatives that increase recruitment and career development opportunities for Aboriginal staff and community members. Your cultural knowledge and experience will be invaluable in building genuine relationships with stakeholders across the department, government, and Victorian Aboriginal communities.

Working closely with First Nations staff and the Aboriginal Staff Network, you will support the evolution of our cultural governance practices. Within the branch, you will help implement an adaptive approach – engaging in co-design processes, gathering feedback from community and staff, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our frameworks. Your role will help ensure cultural governance grows organically within the department, supporting existing Aboriginal leadership pathways while helping create new opportunities for cultural authority to guide our work.

The position of Senior Advisor, Aboriginal Recruitment and Capability Development forms a part of the People and Culture branch within the Corporate Services group.
