About us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.
The QFD is an organisation that is focused on reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability.
Purpose of role
Frontline Solutions and Services is responsible for the management and delivery of frontline business solutions and systems which directly support the QFR, State Operations and RFSQ. The Rural Fire IT Solutions team is responsible for providing contemporary and innovative technology solutions and services to meet the operational needs of the RFSQ capability and the volunteers that are a critical element of providing coverage across Queensland. The team contributes to the delivery and support of fit for purpose technology solutions, ensuring that corporate technology is aligned to operational needs and support maximum adoption of digital solutions and services.
As the Senior Application Developer [Power Apps], you will have strong applied knowledge of Power Platform functional and technical capabilities, and experience delivering solutions based on customer needs. You will work closely with the Project team, customers and key stakeholders to understand and translate requirements, identify issues, risk and/or impacts in relation to functional application solutions. You will contribute to the development, integration, and customisation of Power Apps, using technology in the Microsoft Power Platform environment to support various IT projects and initiatives to build custom business application solutions that supports QFD’s operational capability, service delivery and organisational requirements.

- Experience in the following technical specialty: Power Apps development, including Canvas Apps, Model-Driven Apps, and Power Automate.
- Database development with Structured Query Language (SQL) and Procedural Language/SQL.
- Awareness and understanding of Agile practices and way of working, PRINCE2 or Agile software development methods.
- Familiarity with custom connectors and APIs for integrating external data sources into Power Apps.
- Microsoft Certification in Microsoft Power Platform and/or Dynamics 365.
- A degree level qualification in Information Technology or Computer Science would be highly regarded.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Contribute to all stages of the software development process, including the design, code, review, test, correct, and document complex system components from supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
- Translate and interpret system requirements in the form of functional specifications and/or user stories into technical specifications to deliver high quality and well-designed Power Apps that meets reliability and performance expectations, and achieves desired business outcomes.
- Develop Power Apps using model and canvas driven apps, and leveraging multiple data sources and databases to design end-to-end solutions that improve productivity, streamline processes, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide guidance to team members on the design and programming solutions associated with the development, maintenance and enhancement of workflows, and data integrations to ensure applications are efficient, scalable, and offer a user-friendly experience.
- Develop, maintain and collaborate with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams to manage project requirements, and define and implement software application programming interfaces that provide seamless data exchange between various systems.
- Create documentation for various projects, including design, asset inventory, user guides, diagrams, and presentations, as well as documentation of the environment and/or deployment for supported applications and solutions, in accordance with relevant standards and frameworks.
- Maintain application performance, security and system integrity in delivering timely client focused support and incident resolution of applications in a 24/7 operational environment.
