About the opportunity
Westgold Resources are on the lookout for an Exploration & Resources Geologist for a permanent 8 days on, 6 days off roster at our Southern Goldfields flagship mine of Beta Hunt.
Based in the historic mining centre of Kambalda, the successful candidate will report into the Senior Exploration Geologist to execute approved exploration programs to discover new economically significant gold deposits.
The Beta Hunt land package includes significant exploration opportunities with the potential to substantially increase Mineral Resources and Reserves at Beta Hunt. There are numerous gold zones, including Western Flanks, A Zone, Larkin, East Alpha and the new Fletcher zone - providing significant potential for gold Mineral Resource expansion at low cost and near mine infrastructure.
Importantly, exploration and development at Beta Hunt has predominantly focused on the discrete nickel mineralisation - thus the package is vastly under-explored for gold. This results in an exciting opportunity for Westgold to deliver substantial growth in Resources whilst leveraging pre-established infrastructure.
The role includes
- Assist in the execution of approved exploration programs to test targets in a timely, safe and cost-efficient manner
- Ensure data is accurately collected , collated and loaded into the database with consistent focus on the collection and reporting of high-quality geological data with the application of appropriate QA/QC protocols
- Contribute to the discovery and delineation of new Mineral Resources through the execution of approved exploration programs on Westgold's tenements
- Contribute to the team goal of the successful discovery of gold deposits
- Increase ability to assist and report approved exploration programs with support from the Project and Senior Geologists
What do I need?
- Tertiary Geology Qualification
- Current "C" Class manual driver's license
- Demonstrated experience working as a mineral exploration geologist
- Strong technical abilities, with increasing exposure to mineralisation systems and industry current gold exploration models
- High level of numeric, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated safety focus
- Experience in modern exploration techniques (geophysics and geochemistry)
- Proficiency in relevant software pages; MS Office, GIS and 3D drillhole imaging and modelling packages
- Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
