Description:
The Manager, Youth Justice Legislation provides high level leadership in the provision of legal policy advice to support the Minister and Senior Executives to deliver on the Government’s policy and legislative commitments and reform agenda as they relate to youth justice.The Manager will work closely with central agencies of government, other State and Commonwealth government departments and the non-government sector to achieve positive outcomes.
Youth Justice Legislation is a high performing team, responsible for leading major policy and legislative reforms for the department's youth justice responsibilities. You will be responsible for providing legal policy advice and leading priority legislative reforms in collaboration with other units, the department's regions, and other government agencies.
As Manager, You Will Specifically
- Prepare high quality integrated policy and legislative advice to assist the Director, Senior Executive Director and Deputy Director-General to advise the Minister and Director-General.
- Lead strategic policy projects, particularly legislation projects, including policy development; the preparation of Ministerial briefings, Cabinet submissions, drafting instructions and other legislation-related materials; and engagement with other units within the department and with external stakeholders, to enable Government to deliver its priorities relating to human services.
- Research and advise on contemporary policy and legislative frameworks, and analyse and advise on new policy proposals, based on evidence and best practice locally, nationally and internationally.
- Develop and maintain productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful negotiation on strategic policy and legislative matters.
- Represent the unit on committees and working groups.
- Lead a legal policy team to meet all elements of its work program on time and within budget while building the capacity of team members.
- Contribute to the management of the Legislation Team's Cabinet and Parliamentary work program, consistent with Government commitments and
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Support the Director, Senior Executive Director and Deputy Director-General to represent the department in whole of government and intergovernmental forums and negotiations.
