Position Summary
The Central Australian Youth Link-Up Service (CAYLUS) is a division of Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) – a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from Alice Springs Town Camps, Urban Alice Springs and Central Australia.
CAYLUS started as a petrol sniffing prevention project in November 2002, in response to widespread issues in the region at that time. While CAYLUS remains focussed on preventing sniffing, we also work to reduce the impact of other substance misuse by reducing their supply, harm, and demand across Central Australia.
This newly created, senior position will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of female-focussed remote initiatives, and other relevant activities, that support young people in remote communities.
The Women’s Program Coordinator will oversee the management, training and mentoring of specific CAYLUS Youth Workers, and lead the response to volatile substance use across the region, in close collaboration with CAYLUS Managers and other stakeholders.
The position will be based in Alice Springs but work across the CAYLUS service area, responding to volatile substance use, and supporting regional youth service providers to develop their capacity to deliver diverse and innovative youth development programs to young people of all ages and genders.
Responsibilities
• Manage programs in line with their associated funding agreements.
• Support youth programs across the region, with a focus on building the capacity of female youth workers, to support their engagement with young women.
• Develop and maintain a work plan to document planned actions/activities and achievement of these.
• Assist with identifying and responding to the use of inhalants and other volatile substances, in collaboration with other agencies and CAYLUS management.
• Assist CAYLUS to provide advocacy to government and services on behalf of remote communities, partner services and clients.
• Represent CAYLUS in our work with community and agency stakeholders.
• Contribute to maintaining and improving the CAYLUS office environment and CAYLUS administrative systems.
• Work in compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Provide written and verbal reports.
• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
• Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
• Demonstrated experience managing programs, apply for funding, writing reports and acquittals
• Demonstrated ability to work constructively with a wide range of stakeholders to design and enact practical strategies to support young people and their families.
• Experienced in the direct delivery of youth services and activities for young people in remote communities in the NT, or a similar setting.
• Ability to work in remote areas, including the ability to drive unaccompanied to such areas and reside in them during the course of such work.
• Ability to work during the NT summer and winter school holiday periods.
• Ability to work in an informed, appropriate, and sensitive manner with Aboriginal people.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, seeking input from managers at appropriate junctures
• Ability to gather relevant information and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of youth issues, communities, geography, and resources in the region.
• Current manual NT Drivers Licence (or ability to obtain), NT Ochre Card, Satisfactory Police Check and proof of up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19.
Desired
• Qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Youth Work, AOD, Public Health or similar are desirable.
• Experience and /or qualifications in the delivery of AOD focused casework to young people and families.
• Experience living in a remote community.
• Local Indigenous language skills.
