EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Fixed Term Contract, variable hours

PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE

DWA is seeking a dynamic team player, who is passionate about Adaptive Snowsports to join our Resort Services Program at Thredbo Snow Resort. An essential part of this role is the provision of on-snow support to our members, and involves significant manual handling related to equipment such as sit-skis and other adaptive snow equipment, as well as working closely with members with a range of disabilities.

The role’s objectives are:

  • The timely and professional implementation, administration, and delivery of Disabled Wintersport ‘s adaptive snowsport resort services programs and associated activities.
  • The promotion of DWA resort service programs at Resort and the facilitation of the development of winter sports for people with disability.
  • Ensuring that resort service programs are managed professionally and to an agreed strategy and budget.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Resort Services Coordinator is primarily an on-snow role that involves management of and occasionally provision of adaptive snowsport guide services where required.
  • Coordinate and liaise with DWA management, disability organisations, alpine area Resort Management Boards, Ski Lift companies, Snowsports Schools and members to plan and facilitate the efficient operation of the DWA Winter Season resort services programs.
  • Coordinate and deliver, within allocated budget, all approved activities within the Alpine region including performance and administrative reporting requirements as directed by the DWA Manager.
  • Liaise with current adaptive snowsports Guides and engage and recruit potential Guides to support an increase in Guides volunteering for DWA.
  • Manage and develop, and assist with the training of the volunteer Guides.
  • Manage Guide booking and rostering (assessment of Guide to participant suitability and availability, in conjunction with DWA Head Office as required).
  • Provide support to the DWA Camps program where required.
  • Oversee and monitor DWA Adaptive equipment ensuring all equipment remains safe and fit for purpose operationally, or reporting to DWA Management any unsafe equipment.
  • Ensure equipment repairs and maintenance requirements are identified and undertaken, and stock levels are monitored and recommendations for additional and replacements items are made to DWA management.
  • Welcome, orientate, and farewell members on resort service programs either directly or as delegated to other DWA volunteer guides.
  • Allocate DWA supplied clothing and adaptive equipment to DWA Guides and members on resort services programs.
  • Attend staff meetings including regular teleconferences.
  • Proactively promote a culture of safe working practices and the implementation of risk management processes.

EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • The successful applicant must at minimum be a Level 1 DWA Adaptive Snowsport guide, but Level 2 is preferred. If the person is not yet fully trained, they are able to be trained up to level 2 across all aspects of DWA guiding.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Australian Ski Industry is required.
  • Knowledge and experience of adaptive wintersport in all its forms, particularly the alpine discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience of your primary resort is highly desirable, including an understanding of the stakeholders as pertinent to DWA.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and their application in an Alpine environment is required.
  • Practical experience with volunteer recruitment, retention, and training initiatives is desirable.
  • Experience in facilitating event programs is desirable.
  • Understanding of and empathy for the range of disabilities.
  • Child Safeguarding. Must have experience of working with children and be able to demonstrate appropriate behaviours for engaging with children.

HOURS AND REMUNERATION

  • Fixed term, variable hours
  • April - up to 8 hours per week, on timesheet
  • May- up to 16 hours per week, on timesheet
  • June - September up to 38 hours per week, on timesheet
  • October - November up to 8 hours per week, on timesheet
  • Paid on Timesheet at $32 per hour plus superannuation
