What we are looking for:

Are you ready to lead impactful projects and guide an organisation to governance excellence? We’re seeking a Corporate Strategy Advisor to take charge of high-profile initiatives, including the Annual Report, Operational Plan, and Corporate Plan.

In this dynamic role, you'll provide expert advice and support across a wide range of governance matters, working closely with management and employees to ensure best practices, compliance, and strategic alignment. This is your opportunity to make a real difference in how we operate and deliver value to our stakeholders.

What your day will look like:

  • Drive the implementation and ongoing development of council’s corporate and operational planning and reporting processes.
  • Lead staff and community workshops to ensure that stakeholders are appropriately consulted in the preparation and review of corporate and operational planning documentation.
  • Ensure that council meets its statutory reporting obligations in accordance with legislative and council reporting cycles.
  • Lead the review, development and management of policy and procedure in a number of areas including but not limited to right to information, information privacy and human rights assessments.
  • Research, interpret and apply legislation to provide specialist, informed advice, guidance and support to management, employees and councillors across a broad range of governance matters
  • Actively contribute to the development, delivery and maintenance of governance tools and resources, and educational content

What you’ll need for success:

  • Experience in governance in a local government context or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in the interpretation and application of legislation and regulation applicable to local government and this role.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of corporate planning and performance reporting frameworks and systems.
  • Proven ability to critically evaluate information, plan and coordinate complex projects and processes and the capacity to develop innovative solutions.
  • Extensively developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide high level specialist advice, produce reports and documentation for a variety of stakeholders and the ability to sensitively negotiate on behalf of Council to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound initiative and judgement and meet and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to train and influence others, including facilitating change, and/or improvements to deliver successful business outcomes.

What’s nice to have:

  • A degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Governance experience within a Local Government context.
