Position Summary:
The role involves the maintenance and upkeep of stock watering systems, vehicles, mechanical equipment, and station dwellings. The position requires hands-on repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance to ensure the smooth operation of essential facilities. Additionally, the role includes maintaining workshop operations and ensuring the overall functionality of station infrastructure. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently, demonstrate mechanical aptitude, and possess a practical understanding of water systems, vehicle maintenance, and basic electrical work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for checking and maintaining stock watering points.
• Repairing water facilities.
• Installation of new facilities.
• Performs preventive maintenance for all assigned vehicles and mechanical equipment.
• Tests, services, and repairs company vehicles and mechanical equipment.
• Changes and repairs tires and tubes.
• Evaluates status of mechanical equipment and vehicles and performs or schedules needed repairs.
• Upkeep of workshop.
• Repairs and maintenance of station dwellings (e.g., painting, installing fixtures/fittings, cleaning gutters).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of watering systems, including various pumping systems, small engine experience with both diesel and petrol engines.
• Practical understanding of solar pumping installations and basic electrics.
• Experience in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• The applicant must have the ability to work unsupervised.
• Previous experience with station water facilities.
• General understanding of cattle behaviour and knowledge of checking for animal welfare.
• Physically fit.
Work Conditions:
• Outdoor, remote station environment with long hours operating heavy machinery.
• Physically demanding role.
• Potential for extended shifts based on project deadlines and seasonal demands.
Employment Conditions:
• Full-time, permanent position with a 5-day on, 2-day off roster.
• Based at Natal Downs Station.
• Regular shift work and overtime may be required.
