Job Summary:The Stationhand is responsible for the day-to-day care of livestock and property maintenance. This role includes mustering, animal husbandry, and infrastructure upkeep, ensuring the smooth operation of station activities. Stationhands work under the direction of management and in coordination with fellow team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Training and supervision will be provided where necessary to develop skills and knowledge in all facets of station operations.Duties and Responsibilities:• Cattle Management:– Mustering of cattle using horses and motorbikes.– Processing livestock in yards; penning up, drafting, loading, tagging, and administering veterinary requirements.– Monitoring livestock in paddocks for health, welfare, and performance.– Checking and cleaning water facilities to ensure livestock hydration and hygiene.– Feeding and handling of weaners and administering supplements as needed.– Ensuring that animal welfare standards are always upheld.• Station Maintenance:– Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining fences.– Constructing new fences as required.– Checking and maintaining watering points, including installation of water improvements.– Maintaining stock yards, ensuring they remain clean, functional, and safe.– General property upkeep, including weed control, mowing, and tidiness.– Cleaning, servicing, and maintaining vehicles, motorbikes, and machinery.– Ensuring all machinery and equipment are operational and maintenance is recorded.• Operational Responsibilities:– Consulting with the Station Manager to plan and prioritize daily tasks.– Ensuring assigned tasks are completed efficiently and to required standards.– Collaborating with fellow station hands to facilitate smooth operations.– Assisting in training and inducting new staff members where necessary.– Recording duties performed on weekly work summaries.– Performing additional station-related duties as directed by management.Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities:• Strong affinity for all aspects of station operations.• Ability to handle livestock with confidence, patience, and care.• Keen observational skills for monitoring livestock health and property conditions.• Effective communication and teamwork skills.• Ability to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently.• Willingness to learn and follow protocols to ensure accuracy in records and compliance with station standards.• Capacity to operate machinery and perform basic maintenance.• Understanding of WH&S practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
